Died 27th March 2023, peacefully in hospital following a short illness.

A Service of thanksgiving to celebrate his life will be held in St Patrick’s Church, Jordanstown Road at 12 noon on 7th April.

Very sadly missed by his daughters, Joanne and Susan, his grandsons, Ryan and Connor and their partners, Laura and Claire.

It is with great sadness we have learned of John's passing. To quote the Provost of Ulster University (Professor Cathy Gormley-Heenan), where John had been a Visiting Professor, In many respects John set the standard that many local economists have tried to emulate. He combined his strong intellect with an ability to convey complex messages in a manner the wider public understood and appreciated. He was also not afraid to speak truth to power, an attribute for which he had the respect of many'.
