The Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund (NIKRF) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our most devoted supporter and Patron, Dr. James Frederick Douglas MA BCL; MB BCh BAO; FRCP

Dr. Douglas’s connection to NIKRF began over 50 years ago, when he became the first Research Fellow to be funded by the charity. Over the years he remained a steadfast champion of our mission to advance research into the causes, treatment, and potential cure for kidney disease.

For over 15 years, Dr. Douglas served as our Patron, embodying the very essence of what a Patron should be. His wise counsel, unwavering encouragement, and tireless presence at countless events inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether through his professional expertise or personal commitment, he consistently exemplified a deep dedication to improving renal care and research across Northern Ireland.

Dr. Douglas’s passing is an immeasurable loss to the renal services and research community, as well as to all who knew him. On behalf of NIKRF, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, Giselle, their sons Jeremy, Timothy, and Andrew, and the entire family circle.

Dr. Douglas leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of compassion, leadership, modesty and an enduring impact on the lives of countless individuals. We will always remember him with profound gratitude and admiration.
