He gently closed her weary eyes, and whispered peace be thine. Saturday 23 November 2024 Gloria (nee Moody) & David Wisson Joe, Steph & all the family

Just reading the news of Anne's death, and I feel sad. While never close friends Anne was a constant in my life at Friends School Lisburn from prep school on. She was a superb athlete from a young age and played a powerfully fast right wing and centre forward on the 1st eleven hockey team for more years than most. It was the ease with which she did things that always amazed me. Rarely did she break a sweat, physically or emotionally. She would end a race relaxed and composed while I would be hot, puffy and purple. She was easily the best tennis player in our year and single handedly put an end to my Wimbledon career. Anne and I were founding members of the Wee Wee club in P3 and though our lives were quite different, she living in town and me on the farm, we always shared this special bond.

On Monday (18th) funnily enough, as Vick and I were easing into our day listening to the radio, drinking coffee and reading the paper, Anne's name came up. An expression we read or heard reminded me of her and we chatted briefly about this. Sadly neither Vick nor I can remember right now what the expression was!

Anne was adopted and knew about it at a time when adoption wasn't as open or well regarded as it is today. I remember long talks on bus rides to and from hockey matches about the pros and cons of this. When we met up at the 40th reunion I was delighted to hear she had a much loved daughter called Tiffany, and a son Richard.

In my minds-eye I will always see Anne flying down the right wing like a gazelle. Fly on...dear one.
