Anne Elizabeth GOWDY
Anne Elizabeth Gowdy, aged 88, died on Thursday 9th March, peacefully in her sleep at Lagan Valley Hospital, Lisburn where she was treated with great dignity and care by the staff of ward 1b to whom her family extend every gratitude.
Anne was born on the 27th of April 1934, the eldest daughter of Rev. Gowdy of Bangor, she was always a mighty scholar and took immense pride in her education, she attended Victoria College Belfast, going on to Queen’s University Belfast where she graduated with a degree in mathematics before she pursued a career in accountancy for many years.
Anne was a trailblazer becoming one of the first female chartered accountants for Deloitte with whom she travelled the world but enthusiastically returned to Northern Ireland when she retired.
At home she was never without a novel in hand, reading until the small hours of the day, she loved meeting new people, and even in her last days, her greatest pleasure was a book and a chat on the ward.
Words can not do her vast and fascinating life justice, but she was and is incredibly loved by anyone who had the privilege to meet her and made her children extremely proud.
Her death is preceded by her beloved husband Trevor in 2002, and she is survived by daughter Emma-Louise, her partner Holly, son Jeremy, his partner Cathy, Grandsons Gareth and Ryan, Gareth's wife Michelle and her Great-granddaughters Emma and Abbie, her adored pets and countless friends.
There will be a service to honour her life at Bobby Morrisons Funeral Home on Monday 20th March 1:30 pm which friends are welcome to attend, followed by her cremation at Roselawn Cemetery at 2:40 pm in a small ceremony which will be restricted to just her closest family.
The family have requested in lieu of flowers donations be made to Anna House, via Age NI, 3 Lower Crescent, Belfast BT7 1NR
